Special Announcement: 2020 Regional Vodacom Journalist of the Year Award winner – Sustainability Category

One of my tidal pool stories on Business Insider.

Great news for those of you who have been following my adventures covering stories around Cape Town’s tidal pools – aka my muse for the past few years.

I have been awarded a regional award (Western Cape Province) for the 2020 Vodacom Journalism of the Year Award (VJOY) for my work on it.

Here is what the judges had to say:

“Cape Town is fortunate to have more than 20 tidal pools that play an important role in the life of the city. Each attracts its own quirky communities, both human and marine. After a long‐running fight to ensure they are cleaned and maintained using eco‐friendly methods, city authorities have finally agreed to this with the aid of some of the city’s maritime good citizens.

Our winner entered an interesting body of work in the category but it is particularly for telling – and beautifully illustrating – the saga of the upkeep of the city’s precious tidal pools that our regional winner is Business Insider’s Jay Caboz.”

It’s truly gratifying being recognized for all the hard work I put in behind the scenes to make these stories come to life.

Each tidal pool has its own character but here is a list of my 5 favourite ones.

If you would like to see more of my photos from this body of work please feel free to follow this link to my website where I keep all the images. They make great additions to hang on a wall.
